It is important to know your rights as a traveler in all situations and at all global locations.
In the case of delays of four hours or more, the passenger is entitled to an imbursement from the airline company of the full ticket price and expenses that result from the delay or interruption of flights.
Overbooking occurs when the airline sells more tickets than the number of existing seats in the aircraft and, consequently, forces the passenger to wait for the next flight.
In these cases, the airline company must offer the client a series of benefits. The options include cost benefits or company services, such as an extra ticket, upgrade to higher class and payment of excess baggage. All expenses that result from overbooking should be paid by the airline company.
Airline companies are granted the right to repurchase seats in flights - accommodating passengers that need to board immediately and compensating those who accept to leave the aircraft.
Passengers with physical disabilities should notify any special needs in advance and will obligatorily be provided with assistance from the airline companies, at airports and from companies that provide auxiliary services.
Boarding of these passengers occurs 20 minutes prior to other passengers and their baggage is considered priority. In case of proven need of a companion due to physical incapacity, the companion will pay 20% of the ticket price.
Boarding of guide dogs to aide passengers with visual disabilities is permitted with prior presentation of a health certificate.
Pregnant women with foreseen delivery date of less than four weeks or with complications should present a doctor´s certificate when booking a flight. Pregnant women with delivery date set for the next 7 days or that have delivered in the last 7 days from date of flight may not board the aircraft.
Individuals with contagious diseases or health problems that may worsen during the flight must go to the medical sector of the airline company to determine feasibility for the trip.
The airline company must be notified in advance regarding passengers that will travel on stretchers or require special assistance during the flight. These passengers may only board the aircraft in the company of a doctor or nurse.
Complaints, suggestions and claims should be submitted to the Department of Civil Aviation (Departamento de Aviação Civilor DAC) at the Customer Service Centers located in the airports.
